The Attorney General for the state of Louisiana is now getting involved in the matter of 9-year-old Ka Mauri Harrison’s suspension from the Jefferson Parish Public School System.

Harrison was suspended six days and threatened with expulsion after the fourth grader picked up a BB gun from the floor of his bedroom after his younger brother tripped over it.  The barrel of the BB gun was seen in a fleeting moment on the computer’s camera.

The teacher administering the virtual learning session initially called the BB gun a shotgun.

The report from JPPSS stated: "Ka Mauri presented a weapon that appeared to be a rifle/shotgun during his Google Meets classroom session. This is a violation of weapons in the classroom setting and a violation of the internet usage policy.  He will be recommended for expulsion as per JPPSS policy.”

A.G. Jeff Landry, in a blistering press release earlier today, stated “For anyone to conclude that a student’s home is now school property because of connectivity through video conferencing is absurd.”

The A.G. is launching an investigation into the action of the JPPSS and vowed to defend the nine year old.

“I am alarmed by what appears to not only be multiple violations of both the State and Federal Constitutions, but also blatant government overreach by the school system,” said A.G. Landry. “I have begun investigating this matter and plan to take action in defense of this young man and his family and all families who could suffer the same invasion of their homes and constitutional rights.”

The move by the Attorney General comes as the head of the Dillard University, located in New Orleans, has called for the suspension to be set aside and an apology issued to the child.
