Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards today announced changes to the state's mask mandate.
"Instead of a blanket mask mandate, we will be allowing local leaders and business owners to set their own policies regarding masks," said Edwards -- pointing out that this does not mean people can give up masks altogether.
"I'm encouraging people in Louisiana to understand that though the mask mandate is lifted by me, in most respects, there will be businesses that are going to require that you wear masks. There will be some governmental buildings where you are required to wear a mask."
The governor said his office, and departments that are under the control of the governor's office will still require masks -- and masks will still be required at K-12 schools, and on public transportation.
The changes take effect Wednesday, April 28.
