Former Louisiana House Speaker Taylor Barras is returning to state government.
Governor-elect Jeff Landry announced on Wednesday that Barras will be his commissioner of administration. Barras, who currently serves as the Iberia Parish assessor, will help Landry draft the state's budget and set the state's fiscal policy.
Landry also appoitned former House Fiscal Division director Paul Goldsmith will be Barras's deputy. On Monday, Goldsmith resigned as the chief financial officer of Ascension Parish to accept the post within the Landry Administration.
"I think it's an unbelievable winning team," Landry said of Barras and Goldsmith, touting their abilities to work with members of the Louisiana Legislature. "I have no doubt that these two men will be able to find efficiencies and savings in our government so that we can streamline the government so that it can better serve the taxpayers."
