The five members of Louisiana’s House delegation up for re-election easily won Tuesday night. Republican Clay Higgins beat out three other opponents to win a third term. Higgins, a former law enforcement officer who was first elected in 2016, is humbled by the support he’s received.

“To think that during this very challenging time in our nation’s history that I would be a third-term Congressman, really causes me to reflect upon my struggle to be worthy,” said Higgins.

House Minority Whip Steve Scalise won a seventh term in office as he received 72% of the vote in a race that faced two challengers.

“I’m honored and humbled that the people of Southeast Louisiana are sending me back to Congress to keep up the fight for our shared conservative values. I look forward to spending the next two years building coalitions to get our economy back on track as we confront the COVID-19 pandemic and safely reopen our states and our schools. My top priorities will continue to be restoring Louisiana’s coast and strengthening our flood protection.

“I will also see through the completion of major projects like the $135 million I secured to build the elevated LA Highway 1 project and $85 million to deepen the Mississippi River, while seeking long-term renewal of a reformed National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).

“No matter what happens in Washington, I will always put the hard-working families of Louisiana first.”

Republican Congressmen Mike Johnson and Garret Graves and Democrat Cedric Richmond also were easy winners on Tuesday night.
