Politicians seem to be waiting longer to announce for governor
State of Louisiana

It is about 18 months until Louisiana voters choose a new governor, and no one has yet said they are definitely in.

It is a little unusual, says Louisiana political veteran Ron Faucheux:

"Some years ago, gubernatorial races and candidacies often began several years before the election," said Faucheux. But he said he has also seen a trend begin recently of politicians waiting longer and longer before making public announcements about what they are running for.

"One of the things that we've been finding in more recent elections is that candidates are making decisions later than they used to," said Faucheux, "and they're beginning they're campaigns later than they used to."

State treasurer John Schroeder has told supporters running, but he has not made any official announcement. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser is a rumored candidate. Attorney General Jeff Landry may be interested. Anyone else?

"There are some state legislators who are thinking about it and who have talked about it and you also have the possibility that U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy would run for governor," said Faucheux.
