With no debate, the Senate overwhelmingly agrees to advance Senator Beth Mizell’s bill to bar transgender athletes from competing in girls’ sports.
Mizell says her bill provides fairness in sports and is often asked if there is even a need for her bill in Louisiana.
Opponents say it discriminates against a vulnerable population, but Mizell says transgender females have a physical advantage over females.
“When did it ever become the way we work, where in order for me to have an opportunity, I have to take your opportunity away.
The bill passed 29-6 and now goes to House education that previously killed a similar bill. The governor has already stated he will not sign any anti-transgender legislation.
