The Louisiana Public Service Commission, New Orleans City Council, and the Arkansas Public Service Commission have filed a federal complaints seeking to force Entergy to refunds to customers and make reforms to its rates to the tune of $1 billion.
The complaint says Entergy spent eight years charging customers extra to make repairs to its Grand Gulf Nuclear power plant, to the tune of $800 million, but those repairs have been ineffective and the plant should instead be retired.
It goes on to allege that the company charged ratepayers another $361 million to buy power when the Grand Gulf Nuclear plant couldn't deliver.
"Grand Gulf is the single largest energy resource for the city of New Orleans, and we need it to be operating safely, at full capacity, and at a reasonable cost," said New Orleans City Council member Helena Moreno. "We are asking FERC to help us get that plant running efficiently again as well as seeking refunds to make it right by our people."
The complaint was made to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
