NFL legend Tom Brady has confirmed his widely reported split from longtime wife, supermodel Gisele Bundchen.

Brady, 45, took to social media on Friday morning to confirm the dissolution of his marriage and to ask for "privacy and respect."

"In recent days, my wife and I finalized our divorce from one another after 13 years of marriage," Brady wrote in an Instagram post. "We arrived at this decision amicably, and with gratitude for the time we spent together."

Earlier on Friday, it was reported that Brady and Bundchen were officially filing for divorce.

The developments come after weeks of speculation and reports about a potential breakup.

The power couple reportedly separated in September, weeks after Brady took an 11-day leave of absence from Buccaneers training camp for unspecified personal reasons.

Upon his return from the hiatus in late August, Brady said it was "all personal" and he "had a lot of shit going on."

Several reports indicated that Brady's abrupt decision last offseason to end his brief retirement and return to the Buccaneers for a 23rd year in the NFL played a major role in the falling out.

Despite the breakup of his marriage and the Buccaneers' underwhelming 3-5 start to the season, Brady has indicated that his retirement is not imminent. Last week, prior to his team's loss to the lowly Carolina Panthers, Brady said there was "no retirement in my future."

Brady and Bundchen wed in February 2009, after a couple years of dating. They share two children, ages 12 and 9. He also has a teenage son with his former partner, actress Bridget Moynahan.
