A city council member in Tarrant, Ala., shocked those in attendance by casually using a racist slur in the middle of a public meeting.
“Do we have a house n----r in here? Do we? Do we? Will she please stand up?”
Tommy Bryant was referring to council member Veronica Freeman, who is Black, when he uttered those words.

Bryant made the comment in response to a question from a constituent about his wife’s blatant use of the same slur on social media, according to Bama Politics.
Mayor Wayman Newton, who is also Black, told The Daily Beast, “The video speaks for itself.”
Bryant told WVTM that he was only repeating something Newton had said about Freeman.
“He said it in a derogatory manner, I said it so people would know what the mayor said,” Bryant said. “The mayor was being derogatory toward Veronica Freeman when he said that.”
The Alabama Democratic Party has called for Bryant’s resignation.
