It has been 56 days since we had a named storm in the Atlantic Basin, but that could be changing soon.
The National Hurricane Center is watching four areas with chances of development.
They only one likely to become a tropical depression or storm in the next five days is in the central Atlantic.
"A broad and elongated area of low pressure is located over the central tropical Atlantic Ocean," according to the latest advisory. "Although the associated shower and thunderstorm activity has increased somewhat since yesterday, it currently lacks organization."
The NHC notes, however, environmental conditions are expected to be generally conducive for gradual development in the coming days.
"A tropical depression is likely to form later this week while moving toward the west and then west-northwest at around 10 mph, toward the waters east of the Leeward Islands."
WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford says it is not expected to move toward Louisiana at any point.
"Right now models take this one just northeast of the Caribbean Sea late next week. At this point, it does not appear this one will get near us, but we'll continue to track it."
The other areas still have low chances of development.
