Heat indices are already above 100° in the New Orleans area as humidity settles in to create another day of extreme heat in the region. A heat advisory will remain in effect until 7 p.m. Wednesday as heat indices reach or surpass the 110° mark again today. On Tuesday, heat indices topped out at 115°.
While we saw thunderstorms over parts of New Orleans on Monday, don't expect to see much--if any--rain today. We'll keep rain chances around 20 percent because, after all, it is summertime in Louisiana and pop-up showers can happen. If they do, they won't provide any relief from the heat.
The tropics remain quiet for now. We're still keeping an eye on the system in the Atlantic Basin that forecasters say has a slight chance of developing into a tropical system. However, the Gulf Coast is not under any threats.
