The National Hurricane Center says Tropical Storm Bret is going to gain strength before making it out of the Atlantic, into the Caribbean.
"Maximum sustained winds remain near 40 mph... with higher gusts. Strengthening is forecast, and Bret could become a hurricane
in a couple of days," the NHC said in an advisory.
The tropical storm is on a path for waters between the Caribbean Islands and South America.
"Bret is moving toward the west near 17 mph... and this general motion is expected to continue for the next several days."
WWL TV Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford says there is a lot of uncertainty with the system, but it is currently no threat to the Gulf or Louisiana.
