A warmer-than-normal Atlantic ocean has the Tropical Weather and Climate Research team at Colorado State University revising its forecast for the 2023 hurricane season.
The prediction is now for a slightly above-average season for named storms, 5; and slightly below-average for hurricanes, at seven, with three of the hurricanes reaching Category 3 status or greater on the Saffir-Simpson scale.
The chance of a strong El Niño forming late in the season remains high.
