WWL-TV Meteorologist Payton Malone says the showers were experiencing and cooler temperatures are being thrown off by the loosely formed Tropical Storm Beta currently wandering around the middle of Gulf of Mexico.

Right now the storm is 280 miles to the southwest of New Orleans with winds sustained at 60 mph.

The 10:00am advisory from the National Weather Service shows the storm moving at 3mph to the Northwest continuing on that track until it runs into Texas.

Beta is expected to evolve into a Category 1 hurricane when its lands in the Lone Star near Corpus Christi.

Beta will then start scooting along the coastline potentially going through Houston on its way northeasterly into Louisiana by Thursday.
