Tropical Depression Eta forecast to drift into Gulf of Mexico next week

Tropical Depression Eta is forecast to move back out over the Caribbean and head northeast towards Cuba, the National Hurricane Center is forecasting.

"On the forecast track, the center of Eta will emerge over the Caribbean Sea tonight and approach the Cayman Islands Saturday and Saturday night," said Senior Hurricane Specialist Jack Beven.

"Models continue to indicate Eta will move into the eastern Gulf," said WWL-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin. "We're in November and water temperatures in the Gulf are not nearly as high as they had been, even just a couple of weeks ago."

Franklin said the storm won't be moving very fast, but the cooler Gulf waters will likely mean it won't regenerate into the Category 4 storm that ravaged Central America.
