Forecasters watching Gulf for possible development

Tropics

The National Hurricane Center says there is a small chance we could see something form in the lower Gulf of Mexico in the next week or so.

"A trough of low pressure is expected to form early next week over the Bay of Campeche and the southwestern Gulf of Mexico," according to the Tropical Weather Outlook from the Hurricane Center.

Forecasters say if they happens, the system could get its act together.

"Subsequent  slow development of this system is possible as it drifts northwestward to northward."

The Hurricane Center says, however, the likelihood of this happening is low in the near future.

They have chances of development through 48 hours at zero percent.

"Formation chance through 5 days...low...20 percent."
