Tropical Depression Fred remains disorganized as it moves north-northwest over northern Cuba Friday. Wind shear of about 20 knots continues to disrupt the storm and prevent it from getting better organized.
"These conditions should continue for at least another 24 hours," said Jack Beven, Senior Hurricane Specialist with the National Hurricane Center. "Between that and land interaction, the intensity forecast calls for only modest strengthening during this time."
Fred is forecast to move along the north coast of Cuba, then turn more north-northwest, and cross the Florida Keys into the Gulf of Mexico.
Landfall on the Florida Gulf coast is likely early Monday, with the forecast cone stretching from the western coast of the peninsula to Mobile Bay in Alabama.
