The remnant low of Tropical Storm Fred has shown some signs of getting better organized, but still lacks a center of circulation defined enough to get it a designation as a tropical cyclone, the National Hurricane Center says.
Fred could regain tropical storm status by tomorrow, and make landfall late Monday.
"The disturbance is expected to begin a more definitive northwestward motion overnight or Sunday morning as it moves around the western extent of a subtropical ridge over the western Atlantic," said Senior Hurricane Specialist Daniel Brown.
Fred is then expected to take a turn more toward the north on Monday.
"Watches are very likely to be required for a portion of the northern Gulf coast early Sunday, and warnings may be required later in the day," Brown said.
