Fred strengthens, draws closer to panhandle

Tropical Storm Fred increased slightly in strength as it continues moving toward the Florida panhandle.

At 10 p.m., the storm had maximum sustained winds of 50 miles per hour. It's center is 200 miles sount of Panama City, Florida, as it moves north-northwest at nine miles per hour.

The National Hurricane Center has dropped the tropical storm watch west of Navarre, FL, while the tropical storm warning east of Navarre through the Wakulla/Jefferson County line remains.

"The tropical cyclone will turn northward on Monday as it approaches the coast of the Florida panhandle," said Warning Coordination Meteorologist Daniel Brown.
