It may be cool, it may be fall -- but we still have 62 days of hurricane season to go.
"I'd say brace yourselves. This is just a pause in the season," says Louisiana Climatologist Barry Keim.
The National Hurricane Center is watching one area of potential development in the northwestern Caribbean. Even if it becomes Tropical Storm Gamma, another cold front should shield us from it. But we haven't even begun the month of October yet.
"We've had hurricanes throughout the month of October, and I'd say the best example and the latest example was Hurricane Juan back in 1985," said Keim.
Juan was the tenth named storm in a season that featured eleven. There have been 23 named storms so far in 2020.
Conditions are still going to be conducive for the formation of storms," said Keim, "and I think it's very likely we're going to see some more activity."
