With forecasters warning New Orleans-area residents once again of possible severe weather, it seems like we're hearing these warnings more and more.
"I think it just feels that way," said National Weather Service New Orleans meteorologist Hannah Lisney.
Lisney says that data do not show an increase in severe weather events, it just seems that way.
"We just had one in December, so since this one is happening only like a month later here," she said. "It just kind of feels like it."
She said it is more of a coincidence that we had two significant tornado events in one calendar year: March and December 2022. And this time of year is when the New Orleans area is more prone to severe weather.
"Everybody kind of thinks 'hurricane' when they think about bad weather down here," said Lisney. Like hurricane season, she says New Orleanians need to keep up with the forecasts for winter fronts, too.
"Definitely just keep an eye on the forecast," she said.
