It is a warm and muggy start to this holiday weekend as we wrap up summer.

"The weekend is here and the weather looks good," says WWL-TV meteorologist Alexa Trischler. "Today will be very warm and humid with high temperatures in the upper 80s this afternoon under partly sunny skies, and we'll see a few hit-or-miss showers and storms today."

Alexa says tomorrow will be a little less muggy with fewer showers, but still hot with highs in the 90s.

In the tropics, the National Hurricane Center says a tropical wave is forecast to emerge off the west coast of Africa tomorrow, but chances of development through the week are at a low 30 percent.
