As of 9:00 pm:

As of 8:19 pm:
Flash Flood Warning for parts of Jefferson Parish including Metairie LA, Kenner LA, River Ridge LA. Flash Flood Warning issued for Orleans Parish. Tornado Warning for Orleans Parish has been cancelled.

As of 8:00 pm:
Tornado Warning issued for Orleans Parish.

As of 6:45 pm:

Severe weather is expected to move into the New Orleans area by about 7:15pm this evening. Earlier, a fast moving and fierce thunderstorm with a rotating system but no tornado touch down moved through the Northshore communities of Amite and Tangipahoa on their way to North-Central Mississippi.

Heavy waves and wind are thrashing the Northshore from Lake Pontchartrain in Mandeville. St. Tammany is being lashed with storms all along the St. Tammany Parish water front.

The storm front moving towards the New Orleans area is running a little behind of earlier projections. It may take until 11 o'clock before the entire system has cleared the area.

The WWL-TV Local Weather Expert Forecast center is expecting the bulk of the severe weather to occur during these times:

Northshore: 5-9 pm
    NOLA Metro: 7-9 pm
    River Parishes: 5-8 pm
    Bayou Parishes: 5-8 pm
    MS Gulf Coast: 7-11 pm

The main risk is strong, gusty winds, but we can't rule out the possibility of tornadoes. A tornado watch is in effect through 9 p.m.
