The New Orleans area is under a tornado watch through 7 p.m. Tuesday.

That is in addition to a high wind warning through 9 p.m.

The National Weather service recorded a gust as high as 53 miles per hour at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport. Winds have held steady in the range of low 20s to mid 30s.

"A few gusts could reach 60 mph at times," said WWL-TV meteorologist Alexa Trischler. "Secure loose items at home."
