The tropical wave now over the Florida panhandle is generating showers and thunderstorms in the Gulf that are moving this way.

"We'll see rounds of heavy showers at times," said WWL-TV meteorologist Alexa Trischler. "We could see some flooding in a few spots."

National Hurricane Center forecast Jack Beven says chances for development into a tropical cyclone remain around 40 percent.

"Regardless of development, heavy rainfall could produce localized flash flooding," he warned. "This system is forecast to continue moving westward across the northern portion of the Gulf through tonight, reaching the coast of Louisiana by Thursday."
