Tropical Storm Jerry formed 1,300 miles east of the Lesser Antilles on Tuesday morning.

The 2025 season's tenth named storm is forecast to reach hurricane strength as it approaches the islands before veering north later this weekend.

No watched or warnings have been posted yet, but the forecast brings the storm close to the Leeward Islands as it moves along a subtropical ridge.

"A turn to the west-northwest with a gradual reduction in forward speed is expected during the next couple of days as Jerry nears the southwestern edge of the ridge," said John Cangialosi, a Senior Hurricane Specialist with the National Hurricane Center. "This should bring the core near or to the north of the northern Leeward Islands late Thursday and Friday."

Closer to home, a low pressure trough over the Yucatan Peninsula is producing a large area of showers and thunderstorms. Those storms are forecast to move over the Bay of Campeche where they could get better organized. Development into a tropical cyclone, however, appears unlikely before the storms move inland by the middle of the week.
