The twelfth named storm of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane season formed late this morning in the central Caribbean Sea. Tropical Storm Lisa could be Hurricane Lisa when it makes landfall, possibly in Belize by mid-week.
The storm will not make it into the Gulf of Mexico, owing to a ridge of high pressure that will steer it west into Central America.
"Model guidance remains in very good agreement, and only a small southward adjustment was made to the previous forecast," said Senior Hurricane Specialist Eric Blake with the National Hurricane Center.
"Lisa should encounter more conducive atmospheric and oceanic conditions for the next few days, with increasing mid-level humidities and generally lower shear," he said.
