A broad area of low pressure in the northern Caribbean is drifting slowly north toward the Gulf of Mexico.
"Some gradual development of this system is possible thereafter into early next week," said National Hurricane Center forecasters. "A tropical depression could form while it moves slowly northward, entering the eastern Gulf of Mexico."
WWL-TV meteorologist Alexa Trischler says so far, the forecast does not indicate the system will come this way.
The hurricanes center believes it has a medium chance (60%) of becoming a tropical depression over the next week.
