Cops say a woman was shot near University Medical Center Sunday night.
"The NOPD is investigating a shooting in the 2200 block of Canal Street," Public Information Officer Danielle Miller said in an email.
The initial reports indicated that one adult female sustained a gunshot wound.
The shooting was just across the street from UMC, but Miller says paramedics were called to the scene.
"The victim was transported to the hospital by EMS."
No further details were released initially.
