It’s been almost a year since we lost John Prine to Coronavirus at the age of 73, and just a few weeks ago at the Grammys he was was posthumously awarded the 2021 Grammy Awards for Best American Roots Performance and Best American Roots Song. And now Prine fans have another way to commemorate the musician: the upcoming release of John Prine and Friends on vinyl, where he was joined on stage in 2017 at the Newport Folk Festival by some wonderful musicians.
This limited edition 2-record set features performances of “Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)” with Justin Vernon, “In Spite of Ourselves” with Margo Price, “All the Best” with Jim James, and a group performance of “Paradise.” Other artists on the recording include: Nathaniel Rateliff, Lucius, and Roger Waters.
Proceeds from John Prine and Friends Live at Newport Folk 2017 support the Newport Festival Foundation’s ongoing initiatives to aid musicians in need and music programs across the country.
