CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Efforts to get people registered and to get out the vote have not stopped and won't likely stop until the polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening.
Activists are driving around in a colorful school bus, and have been targeting the immigrant community.
"We are asking people to get on the bus to go to the polls. We have our 'Get Out and Vote' bus today driving around Pilsen and Little Village, and around the United Center talking about the importance of voting today. Today is Election Day. It is our final push to make sure people get to the polls and make their voices heard," said Lawrence Benito, Executive Director of the Coalition for Refugee and Immigrant Rights.
"We are primarily targeting the immigrant communities, Latinos, Asians..."

Benito said these communities have been largely ignored by candidates, and he's found that a little prodding can go a long way.
"What we are finding, when we talk to people directly, if you educate them on the issues, they turn out to vote," he said. "Historically, campaigns have not contacted our people, they ignore the immigrant community and they haven't come out, but we are giving them a reason to vote."
He noted it's a huge voting block and this is an opportunity to make a difference.
And now we have same-day registration, so they're trying to reach as many people as possible.
