(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A first of its kind Wayfair Store is opening its doors to the public next week.
Many shoppers may remember the space off the highway in Wilmette as the old Carson Piere Scott. However, now the 150-thousand square foot building in Edens Plaza is home to the first-ever Wayfair home store.
Vice President of Merchandising Liza Lefkowski says the brick and mortar two story building has been in the works for years. At a time when so many other home and housewares stores have closed and gone online only, Wayfair is going the other direction.
“Lots of people want to come in, they wanna sit on the couch, they wanna, you know, shake the lamp, they wanna feel the, the materials. They want to experience it,” Lefkowski said.
And they want to do it on their time, on their schedule and they wanna buy on their time and their schedule. So we just wanna be where they are.”
The new store will sell furniture, home decor, housewares, mattresses and home improvement.
It also has an onsite restaurant.
Wayfair has been online only since 2002. Its first store will open on Thursday, May 23.
