2 CPD officers among 5 injured in crash on Lower West Side

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Two Chicago police officers are recovering after a crash early Saturday morning in the Heart of Chicago neighborhood on the Lower West Side.

The officers were headed westbound on 21st Place near Leavitt Street shortly after midnight when they were hit by a car that didn’t stop at a stop sign, police said.

The white Chrysler 300 hit the patrol car on the passenger side, leaving one officer with minor injuries throughout his body and the other with cuts to his face and arm.

Both officers are hospitalized in stable condition.

The 30-year-old driver of the car was taken to the hospital with a knee injury and charges are expected. A 31-year-old male passenger had a cut on his head and a 22-year-old woman in the car fractured her hip.

Both are in the hospital in stable condition.
