2 shot and killed at 31st Street Beach; 3rd time this week gunfire occurs on lakefront

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Three people have now been shot to death this week at Chicago beaches, with another four wounded.

The latest incident at 31st Street Beach happened just after 3 a.m. Friday.

According to Chicago Police, a 23-year-old man was exchanging gunfire with a group of others. He was killed along with a 22-year-old woman, both had multiple gunshot wounds.

Police said they do have multiple people in custody. There have been no charges so far.

This incident follows a shooting at the same beach Wednesday night that left a woman dead and another wounded and a shooting Monday at 63rd Street Beach that wounded three people, including a 14-year-old girl.

The lakefront has become a gathering place at night for large groups of young people, and there is often violence.
