CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Chicago police are investigating a carjacking spree on the North Side Tuesday night that saw armed robbers take three cars in 30 minutes.

The first happened at 11:10 p.m. near Montrose and Lincoln, on the border of North Center and Ravenswood. Police said 4 to 6 armed robbers boxed in a car, got out of a black and silver car with handguns and forced the driver out before taking his car.

Twenty minutes later, a 29-year-old man was similarly carjacked near Fremont and Grace in Wrigleyville.

Then, carjackers struck half a mile away, taking a 25-year-old woman’s car near Cornelia and Clark and the belongings of a female passenger who was hit but refused treatment.

Car thefts in the Town Hall District are up 57% compared to last year.
