CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Five teenagers were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries after a school bus flipped over on the northbound Dan Ryan Expressway Tuesday afternoon, a Chicago Fire Department spokesman said.
The bus rolled over shortly after 2:30 p.m. on the expressway’s local lanes near 35th Street. It was unclear what led to the crash.
Multiple fire trucks and ambulances were called to the scene. CFD said the five teenagers who were hospitalized were taken to Comer Hospital and University of Chicago Hospital. The bus driver refused treatment.
Illinois State Police said the bus was the only vehicle involved in the crash.
The two right lanes remained closed in the aftermath of the rollover. Drivers were experiencing a significant traffic backup as they headed into the city.
No other information was available about the crash.
