(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Activist Priest Father Michael Pfleger says there needs to be more outrage about the young people dying on the streets of Chicago.
As the city was preparing to bury murdered Chicago Police Officer Ella French this week, St. Sabina Senior Pastor Michael Pfleger was officiating at the funeral of 14-year-old Marquise Richardson.
Marquise was a recent graduate of St. Sabina’s grade school and part of the Peacemaker Program. He was an innocent child killed in a drive-by shooting outside his grandmother’s home, Pfleger said.
At the cemetery where the boy was interred, the priest said he talked with a grave digger, in his 20s, who was distraught at all of the young people being buried.
“We are in evil, evil times. We are burying dreams,” Pfleger said.
He said we are failing as a city and community when we don't come together to do something about it.
Pfleger is the guest “At Issue.” It airs 9:30 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
