CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Downtown Chicago Alderman Brendan Reilly wants to know if there’s fraud or a glitch in the mayor’s $12.5 million gas and transit card giveaways.
This came up during the budget hearing for the Office of Inspector General.
Reilly said it seems that the cards “were defective.”
“I have a constituent who stepped forward and wanted to do the right thing and report that he used his card at a Walgreens or CVS and was able to overcharge it by some $50 or $60 and was also able to load part of it onto a Ventra card,” he said.
“If this happened to one of my constituents, how many others are out there not stepping forward and raising their hand and saying, ‘There’s a problem with this?’” Reilly added.
He said he reviewed what his constituent showed him and said, “this appears to be real.”
He said he’d forward the information to the inspector general.
