CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A man is in the hospital after getting into a shootout in Millennium Park with an off duty law enforcement officer Friday night.
The 22-year-old man refused to be checked through a metal detecting screening by security around 7:30 p.m. at the Monroe Street entrance to the park, according to Chicago police, who said that afterward he then jumped a fence to get into the park.
Approaching security was met by the man's gunfire. One of the security guards was an off-duty Cook County sheriff's officer, who returned the fire striking the man, who then fled on foot making it over to the riverwalk.
It's reported that he was then taken into custody after hopping onto a river cruise boat. His injuries are reported as non life-threatening.
