ANTIOCH, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- While Black Friday shoppers clammer for the best holiday deals at some of the biggest retail outlets, small business Saturday looms just ahead.

With Small Business Saturday giving focus to generating revenue at local independently-owned shops, village spokesperson Jim Moran asks "why not Antioch"?

"Well, so downtown Antioch is really the epitome of small town America right in the Chicago suburbs," he said. The village has over a dozen independently owned restaurants and dozens more independently owned stores.

"The biggest advantage of shopping downtown Antioch is finding unique gifts that you're really not going to find anywhere else, especially this year as big box stores are having logistics issues and supply chain issues," Moran said.

"All our stores are full of unique gifts that are perfect for the holiday season."

He also pointed out that with about 70 cents per dollar spent at local shops staying in communities, people don't have to shop at Antioch necessarily but they should find ways to shop local this holiday season.

"Small businesses are the backbone of a lot of the suburbs in the Chicago area."
