(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Call it the Barbie bump. A doll shop in Norwood Park is seeing more interest in the Mattel dolls ahead of the new Hollywood blockbuster movie.
Sherry Baloun has owned Gigi’s Dolls and Sherry’s Teddy Bears with her mom on Northwest Highway for 30 years. The pair has been selling vintage dolls at trade shows for even longer, and they have been getting plenty of calls from collectors lately.
Baloun says many have found their old Barbies and are looking to sell them.
Gigi’s Dolls, at 5,000 square feet, is not big on newer Barbies, but they have plenty of classics dating back over the decades, she says.
Baloun said she plans to see the new movie starring Margot Robbie and is heartened by its good advance reviews.
"The fact that it's not just pink and pretty is even more exciting," she said.
