Barnes & Noble closing in Naperville, moving to Oswego

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A large retailer in downtown Naperville is closing next month.

The Barnes & Noble at the corner of Chicago and Washington is shutting its doors on January 21. The retailer announced it’s moving to the Prairie Market shopping center in Oswego located at 2590 US Hwy 34 next to Best Buy and near Ulta Beauty and Kohl’s.

"The new location offers us a huge opportunity to feature our highly lauded new store design," store staff said in a statement posted to Instagram.

They also said they are saddened to leave, but it’s been an honor and a privilege to serve Naperville readers for the last 25 years.

There’s no word on a replacement in the large space. The new Prairie Market store is expected to open in Spring of 2024.

Barnes & Noble currently operates 600 bookstores across the United States. The retailer opened more than 30 new bookstores in 2023 and expects to open over 50 new bookstores in 2024, according to a media advisory.
