Memorial Day weekend means grills, road trips, and unfortunately, a spike in scams. Jordan Wright with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM Newsradio has the details.

Memorial Day is a time to honor those who served and sacrificed, but scammers see it as an opportunity. They’re counting on your goodwill, targeting veterans, active-duty service members, and anyone looking to give back.

Last year alone, millions were lost to fraud tied to fake veterans’ charities and deceptive offers. Watch for phony military loans, fake rental listings, and “special” veteran discounts that don’t exist.

If you’re donating, don’t rush. Be skeptical of unsolicited requests and always verify before you give. A great place to start is GIVE.org.
