Veterans Day honors those who serve, but fraudsters see it as an opportunity to scam. Jay Elliott with the Better Business Bureau’s Tip-Off to the Rip-Off® on WBBM has all the details.
As we thank veterans for their sacrifice and service, scammers are trying to cash in with fake discount offers and by posing as the Veterans Administration.
They’ll claim they need personal information to fix supposed problems with benefits, but their real objective is to steal benefits, drain bank accounts, and commit identity theft.
Scammers often use phony ads, emails, and texts along with high-pressure tactics to push instant donations, so you don’t have time to do your homework and verify the cause.
If you’d like to support veterans, reach out to well-established and trusted organizations directly.
