(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — With many eager to get back to a summer of music and food festivals in Chicago, there’s a new warning about ticket scams.

In some cases, people may try to find tickets on resale sites or even social media.

“The scammer takes advantage of this situation,” said Steve Bernas, President and CEO of the Better Business Bureau of Chicago and Northern Illinois. “They exploit it by either stealing your credit card information, or they take other information or even payment from you, saying that they have these tickets when they have no tickets at all.”

Bernas said there’s one form of payment that consumers should stick to this summer.

“If they ask you to pay from unconventional payment methods, either gift card or some other way, that’s what we call the ‘tip off to the rip off,’” he said. “You should only pay for things with your credit card. That’s your safest way.”

Bernas also suggested making sure ticket sellers have contact information. He warned that even parking spot scams could become common as the summer rolls along.
