CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A Bronzeville man was shot after confronting would-be robbers trying to break into his parked car.

According to Chicago Police, the incident occurred shortly before 5:30 a.m. near 38th Place and Rhodes. The 40-year-old victim, who multiple media outlets identify as a Chicago firefighter, was inside his home when he saw three suspects aiming to break into his car parked on the street.

Police said when the man went outside he was immediately met by gunfire. He suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was transported to an area hospital. His condition was stabilized, police said.

The suspects fled the scene, two driving away in a silver SUV and the third leaving on foot.

No one is in custody. Area One Detectives are investigating.
