PLAINFIELD (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Today is another day of e-learning for students in Troy School District 30-C in the far south suburbs after thieves stole catalytic converters off their bus fleet.

The school district announced the extension of remote learning as works to repair 30 buses that had their catalytic converters stolen.

Joliet Police said it happened between 2 and 3 a.m. Monday.

The department shared a grainy surveillance photo of what they said was a dark-colored SUV that police believe used to steal some $187,000 worth of converters.

The district said they’re trying to speed up the replacements or borrow buses.

A new state law took effect last month that requires scrap yards to get a copy of a title or invert voice for catalytic converter sales.
