CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One of Chicago police union president John Catanzara's key City Council allies has reacted to the union leader's decision to turn in his badge.

Ald. Nicolas Sposato of the 38th Ward is in the opposition of being a strong supporter of the police union and its president and a strong supporter of Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

In this case, he doesn't seem to blame the Fraternal Order of Police president for deciding to resign as a police officer though he can remain union president.

Sposato said he believes the administration hasn’t like the FOP  President because he, like Sposato, is an outspoken right winger. And he said he believes the union leader will so what he needs to do.

During his hearing, Catanzara told the police board he thought the fix was on his police career, and he said he’s going to human resources in the morning to tender his resignation.

Sposato said he personally hasn't heard Catanzara talk seriously about running for mayor, but he apparently expounded upon that with reporters outside the hearing.
