CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — During Tuesday’s Chicago City Council Budget hearings, election officials said they’re trying to keep up with a variety of issues likely to affect voting in upcoming elections including some you might have wondered about.

Charles Holiday Jr. was going through his first budget hearing as executive director of the Chicago Board of Election Commissioners and he assured alderwoman Carrie Austin that officials are stepping up training for election judges. She raised an issue that general counsel Adam Lasker stepped in to answer.

"When I first signed my signature card, I was 18. Now I'm 50. I think my signature has changed," Austin said.

"You know, that's a complaint we hear a lot and we all are very cognizant of that. That's a part of the training," Lasker said.

Austin, who's actually 72, said her signature was challenged. Lasker said there are ways to guard against that now.

The board has recently enacted a provision where you can as a voter now update your signature on the files for us.

Also, he said, people could re-register themselves on the spot if needed.
