CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It may not feel like the holiday season outside, but at the Macy's on State Street, holiday preparations are unfolding.

“Chicago during Christmas is truly magical, and I think we're the centerpiece of that tradition together on State Street,” said Macy’s Manager Matt Sarosy.

This weekend, Sarosy said Macy's will be displaying its 57th annual holiday windows and 117th annual Great Tree in the Walnut Room to officially kick off the holiday season.

In his opinion, the Great Tree is the star of the show.

“It is over 45 feet tall, has over 1,600 ornaments this year, a lot of stars and red and gold, and over 6,000 sparkling lights on there, and every single one is hand placed on there by our team,” he said.

Sarosy said his favorite part of the preparations and celebrations is “seeing all the hard work, joy and pride everyone takes in it.”

“Whether it's standing under the trumpets outside, gazing into one of the holiday windows, taking a walk down the red carpet as you walk in with our holiday structure there, it just ties it all together,” he said.

The Walnut Room opens for the holidays Saturday, along with the holiday windows and Santaland experience.
